New Year, New Recognitions!
Hello Friends,
New Year, New recognitions! Each month, we recognize a local outstanding elementary, middle, and high school staff member who has exhibited superior dedication and unique determination in fulfilling their job responsibilities. This month we would like to recognize 3 extraordinary staff members from Augusta County Public Schools.
These awards serve to highlight teachers and staff members at local schools that are nominated by their peers for going above and beyond in their service to their students and colleagues. The A+ Educators Awards are our way of saying thank you to the teachers and staff making a difference. Each of the current winners will receive a gift certificate to The Depot Grille in Downtown Staunton to celebrate their greatly valued success!
Winner: Patty Danaher
Position: 5th Grade Teacher
School: Stuarts Draft Elementary School
Patty is committed to continuous learning and professional development, and actively engages in a variety of opportunities to enhance her teaching skills. In 2023 alone, she immersed herself in Science curriculum work focused on balanced assessment, a book study on best-practice math instruction, and a semester-long VDOE-sponsored institute on "Discourse in the Science Classroom." Not only does she invest in her own professional growth, but Patty also collaborates with colleagues, recently co-leading a Learning Fair session for elementary teachers on student engagement and discourse in the Science classroom.
Winner: Cheryl Owens
Position: 5th Grade Teacher
School: Stuarts Draft Elementary School
She consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous learning. She regularly collaborates with her Instructional Coach and demonstrates a reflective approach to her teaching practices. In her most recent professional development endeavors, Cheryl served on a Science curriculum team focused on balanced assessment, participated in a semester-long VDOE-sponsored institute titled “Using Formative Assessments to Inform Science Instruction”, and co-led a Learning Fair session for elementary teachers on student engagement and discourse in the Science classroom.
Winner: Justus Butler
Position: Band and Choir Director
School: Riverheads High School
Ms. Butler has brought renewed energy and excitement surrounding the music program to the Riverheads community. She plans engaging lessons for her students and supports them in accomplishing both individual and program goals. During first semester, she stepped up to lead the Spirit of Red and Gold (the combined RHS/BGHS marching band) when her colleague was out for maternity leave. In addition, she is always more than willing to help her music peers and has fully embraced the idea of Red Pride as a member of the Riverheads High School faculty.
Thank you again to these amazing teachers who make such a difference to their students and community!
